Umoe Solar is working in close co-operation with respected international universities and R&D institutes. Strategic alliances in R&D with national and international solar cell companies have been established through nationally funded projects.

Alternative route for the production of high purity silicon by continuous Silane based Poly-Si production technique is under study. The process has a high potential to reduce capital and energy costs compared to conventional Siemens process for the production of high purity silicon for solar cells.

A world class Solar R&D laboratory will be built in cooperation with the University of New Brunswick (UNB) to better understand and develop the present and future processes for the production of feedstock, crystallisation and characterisation of silicon for solar cells.
