Umoe Solar polysilicon plant project

Our project is based on the decision of Umoe Group to enter a growing market creating the basis of a sustainable business. An experienced project team has been put in place to build a poly silicon production plant.

This large scale investment will be approximately USD 650 mill. The planned production capacity is 5,000 mt/year with start-up in 2012.

More than 300 new permanent jobs will be created. During the construction phase a significant number of construction workers and engineers will be involved as well.

After a global search involving a number of potential locations, we have finalized the site selection process.  Miramichi in New Brunswick, Canada was selected due to its excellent infrastructure, strong industrial base and strategic location. The location offers stable and affordable power supply.

We found excellent boundary conditions and local support provided by the province of New Brunswick, local officials and other stakeholders involved in the process.

There is very strong evidence that polysilicon will be the backbone of the solar industry for the foreseeable future. Feasibility studies conducted indicate that the production of trichlorosilane using metallurgical silicon and hydrogen chloride as raw materials followed by chemical vapour deposition using the so-called Siemens process will retain its quality and cost leadership in the market.
